Keisha Reaves stands at the forefront of mental health advocacy as the owner and clinical director of Push Thru Therapy. A native of Georgia, Keisha has observed the stigma surrounding mental health and has dedicated her career to destigmatizing therapy, making it accessible to all. With over sixteen years in the mental health field, she brings a wealth of experience, compassion, and expertise to her role.
Keisha earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Human Services from Clayton State University and furthered her education with a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Psychology from the University of West Alabama. Her diverse professional journey includes impactful roles such as working with children and adolescents in foster care, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, and serving as a part-time adjunct professor at Georgia Highlands College.
In the psychiatric hospital setting, Keisha has been instrumental in aiding patients with acute mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders. She has also facilitated outpatient groups for partial hospitalization programs and intensive outpatient programs, showcasing her commitment to comprehensive mental health care.
Certified in perinatal mental health, Keisha specializes in assisting birthing parents navigating diverse challenges, from fertility issues to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. A dedicated volunteer, she has contributed to Northside Hospital’s Infant Loss/Bereavement Group and served on the Postpartum Support International Georgia Chapter Board as the Training Coordinator.
Keisha is actively involved in community initiatives, leading the Mocha Moms Group at the Atlanta Birth Center and facilitating her own Black Moms group through Push Thru Therapy. Her passion for Black maternal mental health and reproductive education led her to play a pivotal role as a founding coordinator and presenter for the Black Maternal Mental Health Summit for PSI-Georgia.
An advocate for cultural competence in mental health care, Keisha trains providers on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, addresses implicit bias, and promotes a more inclusive approach to better serve birthing parents. Her commitment to education extends beyond the professional realm, as evidenced by her role as a fellow with Emory University’s Psychoanalytic Institute. She is also serving on the Georgia Department of Public Health Maternal Mortality Review Committee.
Keisha is a sought-after speaker, having presented on Mental Health and Infertility for Black Birthing Parents at the 2022 PSI International Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. She also delivered a keynote address at the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia Conference in October 2022. Her expertise has reached broader audiences through appearances on CleoTv’s Life Therapy with AJ Johnson and as a panelist at Essence Wellness House, addressing critical issues in black maternal health.
